7 Reasons You Should Get Off Your Rear and Buy a House Already

Let’s be real—buying your first home is a big deal. It can feel overwhelming and, honestly, easier to keep renting while binge-watching Netflix and pretending you’re not handing over all your money to your landlord every month. But if you’ve been thinking about buying a home, it might be time to stop scrolling Zillow and actually make a move.

Here are 7 reasons why it’s time to get off your butt and buy a house already:

1. You Don’t Need Tens of Thousands in Savings

Think you need a suitcase full of cash to buy a house? Nope. Sure, it’s great to have savings, but you don’t need 20% down. Many first-time buyers can get into a home with as little as 3-5% down—or even less with some loan programs. You don’t have to wait until you’re rolling in dough.

2. “It’s Not the Right Market” — Or Is It?

Yes, the market has been wild lately. But here’s what you might not know: local builders are offering big incentives to buyers—think closing cost help, rate buy-downs, or free upgrades. Plus, prices have leveled out in some areas. Waiting for the “perfect” market might mean missing out on a great opportunity.

3. “Interest Rates Are Too High” – Not Really

Sure, interest rates aren’t at 3% anymore. My first house had a 7% rate, and I refinanced a few years later to 5%. The best part? I built equity while my friends were still renting. Remember, rent is 100% interest—you’re paying for someone else’s mortgage. Why not pay toward your own future instead?

4. Real Estate = The Best Wealth Builder

If building wealth is on your vision board, owning real estate should be too. Not only does your home’s value typically increase over time, but you can also become the landlord. Buy a house, get roommates, and offset most—or all—of your mortgage. This is called house hacking. (Want to dive deeper? Check out Set for Life by Scott Trench.)

5. Afraid of Home Repairs? There’s a YouTube Video for That

Worried about leaky faucets and broken light fixtures? Relax. Homeownership doesn’t mean you need a degree in plumbing. Most repairs are easier (and cheaper) than you think, thanks to YouTube. You’ll feel like a DIY superhero in no time.

6. You’re Tired of the Rental Life

Be honest: Are you done with rent increases, noisy neighbors, and landlords who ghost you when something breaks? Owning your own home means you call the shots. Want to paint the walls lime green? Go for it. Want a dog? Or two? No problem.

7. You Might Be More Ready Than You Think

Buying a house isn’t just about numbers. It’s about feeling ready to put down roots, invest in your future, and create a space that’s truly yours. If you have a stable job, manageable debt, and the desire to build wealth, you’re probably more prepared than you realize.
